Happy Halloween!
Today we will continue with our final projects. I will collect all project proposals at the beginning of class (electronically through google docs and the storyboard sketches on hard copy). Today everyone should begin shooting. We have a short class today and do have class on Friday or Monday since it is a P.A. Day therefore we need to make the best use of our time.
The final work period will ne next Wednesday. It's recommended you do most of your shooting today, and finish up on the following Wednesday. Wednesday's class you should be editing your photos (cropping, adjusting exposures, colours, etc. ) and submitting your final project.

October 29th
Hello,
I hope everyone had an enjoyable weekend! Today we will be continuing with our final light painting assignment. Before you begin shooting, you must:
Write a proposal. This proposal must include the group members names, the title of your assignment, and a minimum 1 paragraph description of your narrative. This paragraph can include why you chose the topic, the materials you will be using (think colour), and how you will articulate your narrative.
If you are working in a group of 2, you will have 10 photos. If you are working in a group of 3, you will have 15 photos. You can include a title and a conclusion photo in this.
You must also create a series of storyboard sketches to show your idea to me.
Each group will submit 1 proposal, you must work on this together.
AFTER you have completed the above, you may begin working on your assignment!

October 26th
It's Fri-day, Fri-day!
1. If you have not finished your posts from Wednesday, please do so. Remember they must be 1 paragraph each!
2. Once you are finished, we will divide into 4 groups and begin planning for our formal light painting assignment. For this assignment, you will need to submit 10 photos within a series that create a narrative. These photos must tell a story, create a scene, or have a common connection. They could create a comic, show an object moving/growing, etc.
After you have developed an idea, your group must submit an outline of your project to me. The outline will include the group members names, the theme (1 paragraph description) and storyboard sketches of your project outline.
3. Once you are finished and have submitted the outline to me, you can sign out a camera and attempt light painting during the day time! Try adjusting your camera's shutter speed, aperture, and ISO sensitivity. When you return, write a 1 paragraph description of your experience.

Today we will begin our light painting challenge, details about groups and room assignments will be given in class. Each group will need to submit to me an example for photo for each category:
1.) "Rockway"
2.) An object
3.) A scene involving people
4.) Movement
5.) OTHER-did you take some creative shots with your group that don't fit the above categories? Here's your chance to shine!
After you have taken your shots (take multiple) one person will be the designated "uploader" and the others will work together to answer the following questions:
1.) Who was in your group and what were each group members responsibilties?
2.) What did you find was most successful? I.e. tracing, longer exposures, LED vs Colour lights, etc.
3.) What were some of the challenges? What would you change for the next time you do a light painting project?

October 22
Hello everyone!
For the first part of today, please submit your slow shutter speed assignments to me. Either send it to me in google docs, or e-mail me the link to whoever's blog it is on. Next, finish all the blog posts about light painting that was from Friday.
If you are done the light painting posts, please upload the best photos you have taken in this class so far to your FlickR account. You should have at least 10 photos uploaded. After this, pick 3 different photos from to comment on (from 3 different people). Describe what you think is successful about the photo (think elements and principles of design!).
After you have done all this, find 1 youtube video that you think describes light painting in a easy way. Post the link to the video on your blog and describe why you thought the video was helpful.
After this, we will begin our first light painting activity in class as a group!!! At the end of the period, I will post the photos we created together on our class blog.

October 15th
Friday we had a short demonstration with the tripods on capturing movement with a slow shutter speed. At the beginning of class, I will do a short demonstration with the cameras again to refresh some of your memories. Today we will continue with this topic with a small assignment:
You will work with a partner (or individually) to shoot a total of 6 photos. You must capture 3 different images using a fast shutter speed and a slow shutter speed. A slow shutter speed would be anything longer than 1/2 a second, and a fast would be 1/250 and higher. You MUST shoot in manual for this assignment, and you will need to adjust the aperture accordingly to insure an accurately exposed photo (i.e. not too bright, not too dark). You will need to take multiple photos of each image to get the perfect photo.
1. Choose 3 images you would like to capture. Ideas are the stream from a water fountain, close-up action of a ping-pong game, a shot of hands typing on a keyboard, a high school musical inspired jump scene, etc. The most successful movement shots will have some still and something moving in the photo.
2. Shoot the photo with a fast shutter speed. Then shoot a second photo with a slow shutter speed.
3. Create a google doc and upload the photos into the doc. Below or beside each photo, tell me the f stop and shutter speed for each photo. ex. f/8 1/30 f/3 1/2500
4. Upload the photos and submit 1 assignment to me through google docs. Be sure both partners names are on the assignment.

October 12th
Hello and happy Friday!
For the first part of today, please finish up the work from Wednesday. You were asked to edit photos, post your FlickR user name on the google docs file, and to go to the National Geographic website and do some research.
AFTER THE LESSON
I would like you to sign-out a camera and a tripod with a partner and try some of the techniques that were demonstrated! For this, you will need to set your camera to a very slow shutter peed (i.e. 15s) and try capturing a photo of movement. Have fun with this and experiement with different movements. Perhaps one person can stand still, the other moves around, etc.

October 10th
Hello and welcome!
Today we will be writing out first test (yay). If you are reading this before the test, best of luck! If you are reading this after, congratulations on finishing.
AFTER THE TEST
Part A
After the test, please complete the following:
Use Iphoto to enhance the following photos. Edit each photo, 3 different ways. Do each photo:
1. In a "normal" but enhanced way. I.e. sharpness, contrast, enhanced colours, etc.
2. An "effect" that you think looks interesting (sepia, b & w, faded colour, tints, etc.)
3. Crop the photo to create a more successful composition (doesn't have to be rule of thirds but it might help).
After you are finished, upload the photos to your blog and title the post "photo editing".
Now choose 1 of your own photos to edit in an interesting way and post it on your blog with an explanation of what you changed. Explain how you made the photo more successful with the new edit (think elements of design, composition, etc.)
Part B
After you have finished part A, please upload your elements of design photos onto FlickR (you can include any other photos you've taken outside of school or within school if it was for a different project). If you still haven't provided your FlickR username within the group Google Doc, do so. Take the time to check out the art that your classmates are creating!
Once you have finished, go to www.nationalgeographic.com and find their "photo of the day" site. Look through the archive of photos of the day (gallery). On your blog, list three photos that you thought were particularly interesting/successful. Please include the title of the photograph, the name of the photographer, and what the date was when it was title "photo of the day". Please explain in depth (1 paragraph each), why you thought the photo was successful. Try to use the language from class, i.e. elements of design, exposure, DOF, composition, etc.

October 3
Hello and welcome to Wednesday,
Just a reminder that today is the last class for the week ( no classes this Friday and Monday is a holiday). That means that after today, you won't have this class for another week! Sad, I know.
1. Today we will be doing a review for our quiz which will be on Wednesday, October 10th. There is no reason that everyone in this class can't do well! Today I want you to do the review sheet for the quiz that I will be handing out in class. After you are finished, show it to me.
2. Go to our class Google Docs folder and share your Flickr user name with the group so that we can view each others photos. There will be a file in the folder labeled "Flickr".
3. Once you are finished the review sheet and sharing , you can sign-out a camera and we will try round 2 of our aperture lesson. The range of aperture is quite small on our cameras, but I still think this is a valuable lesson and that the DOF will be more visible once we are working with our images on the screen. I would like you to shoot 3 different objects/settings with 3 different aperture settings. I.e. a shallow depth, a mid-range depth, and a deep depth. In total you will have 9 photos. You are welcome to work with a partner for this.
